I just ordered Beachbody’s Three Day Refresh to start after Thanksgiving– it’ll help prep me for Hammer and Chisel, and clear out any leftover turkey at pumpkin pie!
When I did it for the first time this summer, I’ll admit I was nervous. I had never done a “detox” before and I really like to eat! It went well though, and I feel really prepared for what I need to do to be successful in this next round– also it’s only three days!
What is it:
The program comes with a three day supply of a high protein shake called Vanilla Fresh, a high fiber drink aptly named Fiber Sweep, and a very detailed book with recipes, what to expect, and lists of all the approved fruits and vegetables. Just reading through it gives you a very clear idea of how the program works and any side effects you should be aware of and what foods you’ll want to eat.
What will I eat?
You will have one Shakeology shake, one Fiber Sweep drink and two Vanilla Fresh shakes. You will also have two pieces of fruit, fresh vegetables, two servings healthy oils or fats, green tea, lots and lots of water… and you may also have freshly made juice, veggie broth, and herbal tea if you want them. I’m not a coffee drinker, but for those of you who are, you may have it, but only black. You’ll also drink lots of water.
How it works:
Every morning, I drank a big glass of water right after I woke up, and after my workout had Shakeology and fruit. Mid-morning was tea and the Fiber Sweep along with another serving of fruit (I have heard people complain about the texture of the Fiber Sweep. I honestly didn’t mind it– it is a little coarse, but I just gulped it down fine!).
Lunch was a big salad with a serving of healthy fats (like avocado), and a Vanilla Refresh shake– I loved adding cinnamon to mine! Mid-afternoon I would have another serving of veggies and hummus…and LOTS of water.
Dinner was honestly the hardest. I loved the recipes (veggie stir fry and the kale and pine nut salad were my favorite), but I missed eating a full meal. Again, it’s only for three days though, so totally do-able. For dinner, I had another Vanilla Refresh shake, serving of veggies, and usually some vegetable broth or tea on the side.
Because you’ll be eating around 900 calories a day (again, just for three days), you don’t want to do vigorous exercise– I did PiYo during this and it worked great.
I wasn’t expecting to lose a lot of weight so was really surprised that I lost four pounds. Even more surprising was that it wasn’t just water weight and didn’t come back the next week. I noticed that my sweets cravings improved a lot and that I was really just wanting more protein and veggies as opposed to chocolate. In terms of the detox, because I already eat pretty clean, I didn’t experience any headaches or terrible cravings. One interesting side effect was that I did break out pretty bad about a week later– I know it was from my whole body detoxing, so while it was annoying, it was a very clear sign that my body was changing. Also, you may see your biggest change on the scale a couple days after ending the program. The most important thing for being successful in this is to make sure to plan your meals and snacks and to keep in mind that you can do anything for three days! One other change I wasn’t expecting was the mental change– I can do hard things! I am not vegan, so eating an all-vegan diet for three days was really intimidating for me.
If you want to join me for this round, I’d love to have you! Would I do it again? DEFINITELY! Especially before a big event or after an indulgent vacation! Interested in trying it for yourself? You can get it HERE (Click Shop –> 3 Day Refresh)
