Are you recovering from Thanksgiving? I’m on day two of the Three Day Refresh and it feels so good to be back on track (even though I’ve also really had to practice self control!) I’ve decided that this year I am going to try to find clean alternatives to our favorite treats so that we can have a tasty and healthy holiday season.
This weekend we decked our halls and loved every minute of it! I love everything about Christmas– the traditions, the food, the decorations, the music! Since having Caleb, each year has even gotten better. This year, he loved picking out the tree and “helping” decorate it. The past two mornings he’s run out in his jammies to turn on the lights.
The other night we had the tree up and it felt so Christmasey and I wanted to make some Christmas cookies. There is already so much sugar in our day-to-day lives that I really try to avoid adding extra, but let’s face it, treats this time of year are a part of the magic of the season! I was thrilled to find a clean-eating gingerbread men recipe link here. I modified it slightly and they turned out really well. They are full of spices and have the perfect chewy texture. My guys didn’t notice at all that they weren’t like the “regular’ ones. A little glaze of maple syrup helped the coconut stick to the tops perfectly. These will definitely be making another appearance this season.
I did the same thing with Pumpkin Pie– another favorite. This recipe was so good and honestly other than being slightly more spicy than sweet, you couldn’t really tell the difference.
Today my holiday survival group kicks off on Facebook and we’ll be focusing on healthy alternatives to favorite recipes and finding ways to truly enjoy this season without undoing our hard work and over-indulging. I have three spots left, so if you’d like to be a part of it, fill out this application!
