Please excuse the post-workout sweaty pictures! This was my third time doing the Three Day Refresh– you can read more about specifically what this detox entails here— and I am so happy with the results again. It has gotten easier each time! I like to do this about once every three or four months just as a reset– I do eat healthy, but no one is perfect and with Easter, an incredibly busy season at work, and a sick toddler, my nutrition was not 110% and I could especially tell I had indulged too much in chocolate and carbs. Late night snacking is my downfall!
Without fail, this detox totally eliminates my sugar cravings and I love how leaned out and re-focused I feel after completing it. I love carbs and meat, so eating completely vegan for three days is not my favorite, but as I mentioned above, it has gotten easier each time! You eat all day long– lots of fruits and veggies and healthy fats along with protein, so you’re not hungry, just possibly craving things (which is different!) Here is an example of some of the food I ate during one day on the Refresh: Shakeology, fruits, veggies, Vanilla refresh shake, healthy fats in the form of peanut butter, and not pictured is the fiber sweep and LOTS of water that I drank!
One note on this program– you have to trust the process. You may feel bloated and like it’s doing the opposite of what you think on day 2 (this happens to me every time!), but it’s just your body cleaning itself out. Don’t be discouraged and wait a day or so to do a final weigh-in and measurement if you need to! Some people find their best results actually come a day or two after completing it. Also, be strategic on when you do it because it does require willpower. I personally do better when I do it in the middle of the week when I’m at work so I don’t have a whole pantry or fridge to tempt me. Dinner is by far the hardest meal for me since I’m cooking an actual meal for the rest of the family, but that’s just one meal out of each day that’s a struggle.
Because I am doing 22 Minute Hard Corps, which is a fairly intense program, I also added in the Performance Line Recover after each workout for some extra protein, and slightly increased the veggie and healthy fat portion sizes just so that I wouldn’t be light-headed or be unhealthy. This worked well for me– it’s really important to be aware of your body and what you need and can handle.
So the grand finale was actually 5 lbs and 2 inches lost, which actually shocked me! I knew that I needed to re-dial in my nutrition but wasn’t expecting to lose much. Every time I have done this, I’ve found that a big portion of the weight is water weight, but that several pounds do stay off. For me, the main reason has been the reset in my nutrition– abs are made in the kitchen, right?!
